13 Jul Popular Linket Languages
It is still early days for linket, but with 19,000 owners we can survey what the most popular languages are. English, unsurprisingly, is number 1. But excluding this, the top 12 are:
Global Usage
Language Owners
Chinese 783
Hindi 713
Armenian 224
Russian 209
Arabic 182
Ukrainian 160
Bengali 147
Korean 114
French 105
Farsi 81
Spanish 74
Punjabi 67
Chinese and Hindi at the top should not be a surprise because both countries are huge and have deep internet usage. If we consider not the Hindi language, but south Asia, then its regional languages are well represented:

Hindi 713
Bengali 147
Punjabi 67

Marathi 36
Telugu 34
Tamil 33
Urdu 25
Kannada 17
Malayalam 13
Total 1088
The total of south Asian owners is 1088,easily surpassing the 783 Chinese owners. The strong presence of south Asia is due to the well known popularity of computer programming and the connecting of the Indian cities to the Internet. Many Indian owners are coders.
The popularity of Armenian is due to a sampling preference in the data. We are located in Los Angeles. While we strove to find linket owners across the Internet, there is still a certain geographic bias towards Los Angeles and, more broadly, California and the US. LA has many Armenians. To a similar extent, the Korean showing in the data is due to the largest Korean community outside Korea being in LA.
European Linkets
Language Owners
Ukrainian 160
French 105
Spanish 74
Portuguese 43
Polish 36
Italian 26
German 24
Serbian 24
Bulgarian 20
The relatively strong showing of French, Spanish and Portuguese might be a function of these being world languages – having wide geographic scope.
Perhaps the most surprising aspect is the minimal showing of Japanese, with only 28 linkets. This is not out of line with various European languages. But given that Japan is the world’s third largest economy, one might expect more.
